This is an especially sharp Japanese knife, using Blue-2 steel from Yasuki, which is reputed to be the top grade of steel for knives.

Tsukamaki, a belt-like thin cord, is Japanese traditional methods using for a Japanese sword. It gives not only a beautiful appearance but a good gripping. By making the end of the cord to diamond knot(button knot), it can be hooked and tied up again in case with being loosened.
